Southeast Asian Refugee Community Home (SEARCH)

 Programs:

The activities of SEARCH center on four programs: Employments Services, Childcare Provider Training Program, Refugee Social Services, and Immigrant Youth Intervention Services.

Employment Services

We provide employment training, placement and retention services including support services such as free bus tickets, car pool arrangement, etc.

Our Employment Services Counselors work hard to help clients assess skills, prepare resumes, fill out application forms, and prepare for interviews. They are constantly making connections with employers within the Twin Cities area and throughout  Minnesota. We offer job readiness programs and computer literacy programs on-site, and refer clients to other training programs in the community.

SEARCH has formed a consortium with Karen Organization of Minnesota and Minnesota African Women Association to implement an employment and training program for the benefit of the refugee and immigrant populations. The partnership allow all the organizations involved to maximize their services, enables them to reach a broader population of refugees and immigrants, and provides more training opportunities, which would lead to higher paying jobs for their clients in the future. With good collaboration, determination, and commitment, the possibility for improvement for each organization in the partnership is unlimited.

Childcare Provider Training Program

SEARCH’s 40-hour Childcare Provider Training Program offers several sessions throughout the year and prepares participants – refugee and immigrant women having limited English language and limited job skills -  with the knowledge and skills to care for young children and help prepare them for school. Graduates of the program can enter successfully the job market or establish their own licensed day-care business in their homes.

Refugee Social Services

SEARCH helps refugees and immigrants apply for benefits, locate housing, access English language programs, locate medical clinics, obtain driver’s licenses/identification cards, and enroll children in daycare or school. Our staff understands the needs of newly arrived refugees and immigrants, and can help navigate the system of services available to them.

Refugee/Immigrant Youth Intervention Services

SEARCH’s Youth Advocates work with refugee/immigrant at-risk youth who are          struggling to stay in school and who may face involvement with the juvenile correctional system. This program offers a 3-6 month case management relationship with a Youth Advocate. It seeks to encourage school completion, improve academic performance, provide career development activities, and secure parent support. We help these young people make connection between current education and future aspiration so they can find a better path
